CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Feferi Peixes
SERIES: Homestuck
CANON POINT: From the point where Feferi falls asleep to talk to the Horrorterrors just before the events of Kanaya: Return to the Core.
LOSS: Swimming. Memories, ability, even the ability to stick her head underwater is gone.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER: To briefly summarise her history, Feferi is the former-empress-to-be of the Alternian Empire, s spacefaring race of vicious alien trolls. Then she played a game, and the Alternian empire (save 13 members) all died, making the whole heiress thing rather moot. Then, after getting through the game and about to claim their prize, they instead ended up trapped on a meteor in the unending remnants of their game forever (as far as they know).
Feferi is very cheerful, optimistic and energetic, and she is frequently shown smiling and laughing. This effervescence has a darker side, though; whilst a lot of her humour is based around replacing common words with fish puns, or making metaphors based around the sea, she also seems to sometimes find humour in vicious jabs at other people. Her cheerfulness can also be at the expense of other people's feelings; unless it's Sollux, she seems to be lighthearted even when other people are being serious, and will obliviously ignore other people's emotions even as she's glubbing about feelings. When she broke off her moirallegiance with Eridan, for example, she was briefly very serious, but by the end of the conversation had reverted to smiles and puns even though Eridan was heartbroken. Then again, she is also shown as upbeat during a conversation about her impending death, and when she meets Jade after Feferi's death, Feferi is not only apparently cheerful about her death but even uses it as a basis for a dig at Jade. Even being trapped on the meteor doesn't dampen her spirits.
That's not to say Feferi is completely mean; she does care, but more in a general way. Before the game, she spent some time thinking about how to make life fairer for the Alternain underclasses, even though she knew it was ultimately futile thanks to the whispers of her lusus. She wanted to reduce the amount of trolls killed for having mutations or disabilities or being old, and to introduce a better way of caring for those trolls who couldn't care for themselves. She also refused to let her lusus go hungry, as to do so would kill millions of trolls. It is debatable whether or not she feels guilt for having to kill other trolls and their lusii in order to feed Gl'bgolyb, but certainly it is something she took very seriously, and was relieved when Gl'bgolyb died and no longer needed feeding, which indicates at least some level of remorse. She was also an advocate of being nice to the humans when the two species finally made contact.
Feferi takes her responsibilities seriously, but does not consider herself superior to others in most respects. Indeed, she seems to take offence to anyone who declares themselves better than others purely because of birth: she finds Eridan's tendencies in that direction very irritating. She has declared herself to be no better than anyone else, regardless of the fact that her blood colour places her higher in the hierarchy than any other troll save her ancestor. As previously mentioned, though, she planned to make a lot of changes during her time as ruler of the trolls; she understands that power means responsibility. She also put off breaking her moirallegiance with Eridan until she was sure he could do no further harm. Her relationship with Sollux also shows her lack of adherence to the hemospectrum.
Feferi has also never shown fear or apprehension during any event. Even when Sollux dies at the beginning of the game, she never seems anything but optimistic and determined to bring him back. When Eridan stuns Sollux, she is angry but not fearful. When breaking up her moirallegiance, she steams ahead with it with no signs of remorse or trepidation. This does mean she can be stubborn and headstrong; when forbidden to sleep by Karkat, the leader of their group in the game, she ignored his orders to talk to the Horrorterrors as she believed she knew better than he did. Even the Horrorterrors, vast eldritch abominations that they are, she believes are quite nice once you talk to them, although how much of that is due to being raised by their emissary is unknown. She also seems to sometimes reject indications that things aren't the way she wants them to be: see her constant dismissal of Eridan's threats.
ABILITIES:
Please let me know if these need toning down
Strength: Feferi appears to be capable of feats that require some amount of strength; she is seen dragging a whale-shaped, whale-sized creature underwater at one point.
Witch of Life: Although not shown in canon, except for one doomed-god-tier alternate self, as every other character has a lesser version of their god-tier abilities pre-god-tier it may be theorised that Feferi has some small abilities to heal - this will mostly be minor current injuries, maybe as far as broken limbs. She is not capable of raising the dead, or complicated injuries, or removing diseases, or fixing old injuries that have healed naturally but not optimally.
Weapon: The Ψdon's Entente, a double-ended trident (2x3dent) generally seen in the context of ceremonial culling fork, and some ability to use it.
Resistance to psychic powers: Due to the way the hemospectrum works, Feferi should be immune to psychic abilities - she is immune to all effects of the psychic scream issued by her dying lusus, for example, and Vriska says that the higher you go on the spectrum, the harder it is to control anyone. This will be turned into resistance to active psychic powers - passive empathy abilities or surface telepathy will work, actively trying to force a mind read or mind control will probably not.
General Trolldom: Horns, fangs, presumably slightly better than average night vision (nocturnal!) and related photosensitivity, tougher skin (see: lying on horn piles apparently perfectly comfortably).
Feferi should also be amphibious, capable of living equally well above or below the waterline, but due to her loss this is no longer applicable.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: Feferi stretched, and rolled over. The horn pile was proving surprisingly comfortable, even for her. Somehow, she'd managed to find a position with no edges sticking into her back, or accidental honkings as she turned. It was nice to have some luck, she supposed; she'd had none trying to talk to the Horrorterrors. Indeed, it was like she hadn't dreamed at all, which was unusual, nearly impossible since her dreamself had awakened.
Then she opened her eyes and any lingering thoughts of being on the asteroid vanished. Instead of the dull grey ceiling of the computer room, the walls were the very familiar purple of her hive. Sitting up, she found herself sat on a human bed, rather like Jade's. The whole room was a mix of almost right and subtly wrong, in fact. Excited at the prospect of being somewhere not an asteroid drifting eternally through paradox space, she stood up and wandered around the room, poking at everything she could find.
There were a lot of really unusual things in this room that wanted a better look later, but the most obvious was the book sat on the small bedside table. Flicking through it, it seemed to be full of messages from other people, like a memo if a memo was on paper and also contained sound clips and videos, and okay it wasn't very much like a memo at all, but it was the closest analogy Feferi had. Maybe the people in this book were denizens of... wherever she'd ended up?
How did the book work though? Maybe... the blank page at the front was like a text box? Picking up a pen, Feferi wrote a brief message in the book, excitedly watching it as it vanished and appeared on a new page.
Then she closed the book, walked over the door, and left the room. If this was a building full of other people, if she wandered around a little, maybe she could find someone else and also get to explore and find something interesting. That sounded like more fun than sitting in the room until something happened.
FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE: HELLO! My name is Feferi and I think I have come adrift! I meant to glub to the swimmers of the Furthest Ring, but somehow I didn't bream about them and then I woke up here. Can anyone tell me where I have washed up? I should probably get back soon, or Sollux will be concherned and Karcatfish will get all crabby again and glub at me for ages about how he warned me about sleeping. 38/
If I'm here though, maybe everyone else ended up here too. Have you seen any other trolls? Are people here trolls or humans or something else? Maybe I should go look around and see if I can find out!
If you see any trolls, if you could let minnow that would be really nice! 38D
