onlythefishiestFeferi's canon-point is just prior to Kanaya: Return to the Core, and therefore also just prior to Feferi's subsequent death. At this point of canon, she is approximately 7 sweeps old, or about 15 in human years.
Feferi is a member of an alien race called trolls, or maybe Alternians if you're being polite. She used to be heir to the Alternian empire, then she played a game and all but 13 of the entire race died. Troll biology includes horns, fangs, grey skin brightly coloured blood that falls somewhere on a spectrum; the lowest is rust red, the highest Feferi's shade of purple. Trolls are prone to hideous nightmares if they do not sleep in a substance called sopor slime. All trolls start life as grubs, then pupate into their more human forms. Grubs are adopted by a guardian monster (a lusus); Feferi's was Gl'bgolyb, an emissary to the eldritch abominations called the Horrorterrors.
